Sunday Blessings

I love this quote and so applicable to me because I live in two different cities. My heart is always in both places. I always hold my loved ones in my heart. Thank you so much for your prayers for me and all the people affected by the Earthquakes and Tsunami's. We had a couple of tense hours in the morning from about 9 to 11 am and watched the Tsunami come to Hilo on television. It was so fascinating watching the tide going out so fast and then coming back again but it was not long before the threat was downgraded. Sunday blessings for sure.

Saturday in the Islands

Good morning Everyone is blogger land. No posts this week. Have had out of town company from the Mainland. However, a new wrinkle today is the HUGE earthquake last night in Chile. They expect a Tsunami today in the Hawaiian Islands. The first warning of one since 1994. We are putting water in bottles, vases, buckets. Other than that we are just going to hunker down and stay put. Not near water so that is good. Please pray for Hawaii and for Chile. Love you all.

WITHOUT YOU

I thought this was a fitting quotation to include in the Love Month of February. I think Piglet says this to Pooh. A wonderful tribute about how much our friends mean to us!

Put Your Heart

I just watched an incredible UTube video the other day entitled "The Invisible Woman." This quote reminded me of the video because the woman speaker put her all into her smallest acts and even though sometimes it seems like no one notices us or our actions, God see us and we succeed.

Lean On Me

Here is one of the finished products from my last post. The background of this piece is done in crayon, reminiscent of when I was a little kid and LOVED crayons! The quote is a good one for the month of February, reminding us that we all need to lean on each other. Have a great day!

The Importance of Calligraphy

Recently, a friend of mine, Linda Schneider, was asked about the importance and relevance of Calligraphy in the modern world today. She was asked to write an article for her local Liberty Lake, Washington newspaper. She wanted to know my thoughts about this subject so I thought I would share here with a picture of some recent rough drafts of future posts.

Why Calligraphy is a modern and important art form.

We have been using letters and symbols practically since the beginning of time. People scratched symbols on rocks and told a story.

I think that Calligraphy is an important art form because, first of all, if it is done correctly and with a lot of practice, it is beautiful. It gives a form of beauty to the world.

Secondly I think calligraphy is an art form because we can use beautiful letterforms to interpret a favorite saying or quotation. And just as in the early cave man days, we add painting and drawing to embellish a favorite quote which adds meaning to the words.

Sometimes when people take a calligraphy class, they think that they will be an accomplished calligrapher in four weeks or six weeks time. But learning to make beautiful letters, proper spacing and interesting negative spaces does not happen overnight. Beautiful letters, even standing alone, tell a story of dedication, practice, passion and commitment to a wonderful art form that will never truly go out of style.

How to get started as a Calligrapher?

If one is interested in becoming a calligrapher, I always suggest starting with a very good teacher. A teacher is vital to instruct in the proper direction of letter strokes and a good way not to pick up bad habits. When I used to teach, I would always say, it is better to practice 10 minutes a day if that is all the time you have, rather than cramming in an hour before the next class. You are teaching your brain and your hand new skills. It takes a lot of daily practice. And then after that, keep taking more classes.

Join a Calligraphy guild in your area, you will see professional calligraphers and their work that will help you and inspire you.

Try to go to Calligraphy workshops or Conventions in your area where you can teach classes from all different kind and levels of calligraphers. All these things will improve your skills.

I took my first Calligraphy class for a whole semester in high school. I was 14 years old and I have been working at it ever since.

Small Things WIth Great Love

I love this quote so much that I had it hand painted on my studio wall in Spokane, Washington. I'll take a picture next time I am there! People wanted to know why I did not letter it up there but I letter on paper, I think walls are really hard. This quote is from Mother Teresa. A great, wonderful woman for sure.

Love Has Dyed My Heart

This has always been a favorite saying of mine. I am sorry but I do not know who wrote it.

The idea of love dying my heart conjures up images of all the people I love or have loved and how their lives have changed mine. And hopefully my love has changed theirs. Love is everything. Thanks for being followers. I am grateful for all of you!

Come Over For Coffee

Yesterday I taught my first class at "A Place in Time" in Kailua. A big thank you to Priscilla and Bill for hosting me! There are so many reasons why I love to teach. Just sharing my love for beautiful crafts, earning a little money (-: ( mahalo to everyone!) but most of all meeting new people. So this is something that I forgot to say in my class yesterday. I so enjoyed meeting all of you who took my class and if you ever want to come to Mililani and hang out with me, the coffee or tea pot is always on!

STRONG!

On my website, I talked about how I create my art and how words inspire artwork. This time, the artwork inspired me to look for this quote. When I was painting this heart to go with my previous post, the water ran together in the center, creating a strong bond. Just one of those coincidences or happy accidents, I thought. Until I remembered this quote and how we can choose to heal and be stronger in the broken places! Have a strong, joy filled day!

Broken Heart

I am sure that some of you have already seen this quote but putting it up again with new painting. Such a good reminder that so many people have broken hearts that we can't see. Sending my prayers that your brokenness will mend.

HAPPY FEBRUARY!

Happy February everyone! I have to say a big thank you to all of you for being one of my blog followers and for all the nice comments on my artblog AND about my new website. Thank you so much. <3

Posting my February Calendar page was Hubby's idea. I thought it was a cute idea. I do a calendar every year with a different theme. The theme this year was Hawaii and this drawing was a carnation lei in a heart shape. I have all kinds of love quotes to share for this month so stay tuned! Have a great day. Sending love and blessings . . . . .
