Small Book

It was so coincidental when I read Lori's post at http://www.elviestudio.blogspot.com/. She had just finished making some paste paper and I had done the same thing about a week ago. I had not made any paste paper for several years and that I tackled it in my small kitchen is nothing short of a miracle. I mixed up two shades of blue and one shade of yellow/gold and mixed it together. Then I used my pasta tool to make marks! Nothing like grabbing whatever is handy in the kitchen! I put the paste paper on a sheet of white Bazzil card stock and the first one I made buckled so the second one I pinned it to my art board. Notice the small holes in each corner of the sheet.

After it was dry, I used it to make the covers of a little book and did a stitch binding using ribbon.

Beautiful Blooms

This is kind of a composite, first soft watercolor with brighter color added on top, then torn and put onto torn hand made paper and then calligraphy put on top of that. Thank you always for all your nice comments!!!

Work in Progress

Here is what I have been working on this week. Preparing a sample for my next class that I am teaching. This is called a Tropical Tag Flag book. All the ribbons make it so fun.

Happy Friday, Peace, Joy, Love

This is something I made for my friend Karyn who lives in Spokane, Washington . I did not want to put it up on my blog until she received it. Our Spokane Calligraphic Guild, Scrips and Scribes, is doing a themed journal this year where everyone puts a page into everyone else's journal. Technically, I am not taking part in this project but I could not resist doing a page for my friends who would appreciate it.

Being Irish

This saying was given to me by my Irish cousin, Jerry. We all think it is So funny. It reminds me of Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh. He goes around all day being gloomy when really, inside, he just wants to be loved like the rest of us!

It's Irish Week!

You know that saying, "Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day" so here is the first of about 5 new Irish pieces for you to enjoy.

(And I actually am Irish!)

And the Winner is . . ..

LANIE, you are the winner of my piece of Calligraphy, congratulations. The picture is of my husband holding the bowl with all your names. We draw names the low-tech way at our house but still fair. Hope you are all having a great day!

GIVE AWAY2

This is my blog for January 28th. I liked it so well that I had prints made of my original artwork. The artwork is torn around the image and then mounted on mat board, suitable for framing. I am giving one away to you, my faithful followers. Just leave a comment on my blog and I will draw on Monday. In the meantime, have a happy weekend.

Revision of Starry Abyss

Decided today to do a revision of yesterday's post. I was not altogether happy with the words around the artwork so I decided to put it on the bottom instead. I think I like it better. What do you think???

STARRY ABYSS

This quote has been resting in my quote notebook for years and I have always wanted to letter it. I guess now was the time. It has so many beautiful ideas for imagery. It was written by Pablo Neruda and goes like this:
"And I, infinitesimal being, drunk with the great starry void, likeness image of mystery, felt myself a pure part of the abyss, I wheeled with the stars, my heart broke loose on the wind." Thank you so much for all your nice comments on my blog. Appreciate you~

PLAY IT

This is my favorite kind of multi-layer calligraphy. I hope you like it, play it with passion. That means that whatever you are doing, throw yourself into it!
