Fourth of July

This picture is a picture of a small flag which can be purchased from an outfit called bluestarmothers.org. These flags were first started in World War I. The blue star symbolized that you had a loved one, in danger, serving our country. They are called Blue Star Mothers but fathers, sisters, brothers, wives and children of loved ones in danger can all fly this flag. It comes with the name of the service on top and on the bottom, the name of your loved one.

If you remember the movie, "Saving Private Ryan", ( which I could not watch), Mrs. Ryan had a flag with 4 blue stars for her 4 boys serving our country.

I hung my flag in my window from August of '06 to August of '07, while my sweet son, Drew, was serving in Iraq. It did not come down until he was safely home. I cried a lot that year but I was so proud of him. Actually having a loved one in the war changed and deepened my perspective completely about our freedom. We are free because of the brave men and women who protect our country.

The fourth of July is like Thanksgiving Day for me. I pray today for all the men and women serving our country and I am so thankful for them.

I was going to be creating all this great art this summer and posting it on this art blog. But sometimes God has other plans for us than we have. Still in surgery recovery mode and hooked up to a WoundVac machine 24 hours a day. I have learned so much and now content.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
