Making New Friends 2010

Yesterday was my last day of teaching for this season in Kailua, Hawaii as we are moving back to the mainland in two weeks. (Yikes, not ready yet) My heart is full of love and gratefulness for all these women who have been taking my classes all winter! New friends, yay! I have learned as much from them as they have learned from me. We have made fun books and made fast friends. Sending out Aloha, big thanks and lots of hugs!

Great Trees

My daughter sent me this quote recently so I wanted to do it in calligraphy for her. It has neat images of sheltering our children.

Spring Board Book

Last Wednesday night I took this class at the local Stamp store where I have been teaching all winter. It is a kit so can't take any credit for most of the creativity. I think it was designed for family photos but knowing that I can't create anything without words in it, I wrote a little story about returning birds. It reminds me of a children's board book and is fun to look at. I will continue to add pages this week so you can see it all. I hand lettered the story in Bookhand calligraphy and then copied it on to vellum and then made stickers out of the words on my Xyron. The only problem with that is that some of the ink is rubbing off. Bummer. Life is just living and learning, isn't it? Have a happy day. It's Spring!!!

Serenity Prayer

Recently one of my new Hawaii friends, Maude, wanted to have the Serenity Prayer done in a little accordion book form like the St Francis prayer. She loves the color blue so I created this little tin and book for her.

Inside the blue flat panel

Here is the book, click here to see the inside. For directions to make this, download this PDF file.

And more to come from this little book

Recently one of my students, Suz, treated me to a new kind of book called the Flat Panel book. I love it. It is so fun to make. Here is the cover and hope to show you the whole book in the next couple of days. Also will be instructions to make it probably a link to my website. Thanks to my great friend and wonderful neighbor, Donna, I am going to learn how to present my book so that I can show you all the inner pages too. Stay tuned. . . .

Easter Blessings

I am in love with these swirls which I just learned how to do thanks to my sweet neighbor, Donna. I just had to use them for something and I am sure you will see them again. Wishing you all a blessed Easter!!!
